Lactation accommodation requirements have been expanded as follows: a) employers must provide a location other than a bathroom for lactation; b) the lactation room must be close to the employee’s work area, provide privacy and be free from intrusion; c) the room must be safe, clean and free of hazardous materials; contain a surface to place a breast pump on; contain seating and have access to electricity; d) there must be access to a sink with running water and a refrigerator to store the breast milk close to the employee’s workplace.
Additionally, employers are required to have a Lactation Accommodation Policy, publish it in the employee handbook and provide the policy to employee’s who request parental leave.
